Knockhill race winners
Knockhill Circuit opened in 1974 when a disused mineral railway and a collection of service roads on land owned by local farmer Tom Kinnaird were linked to create a 1.3-mile road course.
Kinnaird ran the popular circuit for a year before a lease was given to Denis Dobbie for 1976. Various leaseholders came and went, with Kinnaird retaining ownership, until Derek Butcher purchased the circuit in 1984.
More improvements came, including upgrades to the offices, race control, media centre and pit garages, and in 1992 the circuit finally attracted the British Touring Car Championship for the first time.
The BTCC has remained on the calendar ever since, save for 2003, and the series’ annual visit to Scotland is an immensely popular part of the year for tin-top fans.
The nine-turn circuit has an unchanged layout from the day it first opened in 1974, and features elevation changes of around 60 m over the course of the sub one-minute lap.
