Championship leader Tom Ingram tops red flag affected FP1 at Knockhill

Tom Ingram set the quickest time in free practice one for the British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill, with three different cars in the top three, which was completed by Daniel Rowbottom and Jake Hill.

The session was affected by a lengthy red flag mid way through the session. Un-Limited Motorsport’s Nicolas Hamilton ended up in the gravel at the final hairpin, with the recovery taking around twelve minutes, reducing track time significantly.

Toyota’s Aron Taylor-Smith went quickest just before the red flag with a lap of 51.796 seconds as times dropped in the opening portion of the session.

Times continued to drop as the session resumed with Ingram setting the two quickest laps in succession with just minutes to go, setting a 51.087 to top the session. Rowbottom ended 0.222 behind, with Hill in third, as Taylor Smith ended the session fourth. Ash Sutton completed the top five in the opening session.

Home favourite Gordon Shedden was sixth in his Toyota ahead of fellow countryman Aiden Moffat. NAPA’s Dan Cammish was in eighth, joined by Team Vertu’s Adam Morgan in ninth. Restart Racing’s Chris Smiley rounded up the top ten as the quickest independent with a lap time of 51.758.

The final Scotsman Dexter Patterson was in 12th, with Power Maxed Racing’s new loaned CUPRAs in 18th and 22nd respectively for Mikey Doble and Nick Halstead.

FP2 is scheduled for 12:05, followed by qualifying at 15:00.
