Winton finalises 2023 TCR Australia calendar

Winton Raceway is the final circuit to be confirmed for the 2023 TCR Australia calendar, with the Victorian track securing a June date for its return to the schedule.

Winton featured on the calendar for the inaugural TCR Australia season back in 2019, but it has been absent for the past two seasons.

This year the rural circuit will hold the third event of the season, along with Trans Am, S5000, Touring Car Masters, the reborn V8 Touring Car class, Sport Sedans and Formula Ford.

In 2019, Jason Bright took his Volkswagen Golf GTi to victory in the opening race of the weekend, before eventual champion Will Brown doubled up in Sunday’s pair of races.

The only aspect of TCR racing in Australia this year still to be confirmed is which circuit will stage the second of two TCR World Tour events. The first has already been confirmed as Bathurst in November.

The season finale of the TCR World Tour, at an as-yet unspecified venue, is planned to take place one week after the Bathurst TCR Australia finale.

“This is great news that we will have TCR Australia back at Winton in 2023,” said Liam Curkpatrick, Chief Operating Officer of TCR Australia promoter Australian Racing Group.

“The circuit is perfectly suited to the TCR cars, and just like we saw in 2019, it offers plenty of action and close racing.

“Our focus is now firmly on the opening round at Symmons Plains with some really great news for the category coming through in the coming weeks.”
