Team Dynamics’ Gordon Shedden put in the fastest lap of the day so far in the second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Thruxton, two tenths of a second faster than Team BMW’s Tom Oliphant.
Shedden’s team-mate Daniel Rowbottom was the first driver to break into the 1 minute 15 second times in the session, putting in a lap of 1:15.918 after just over 15 minutes had elapsed.
The Honda driver was quickly usurped by BMW’s Oliphant, with a time of 1:15.762, before Shedden went fastest of all with just ten minutes to go with his lap of 1:15.537.
The times were just a tenth of a second faster than the earlier practice session, as the Hampshire circuit basked under partially sunny skies.
Oliphant ultimately held second with his best lap, ahead of the Ciceley Motorsport BMW of Adam Morgan in third, the Lancashire ace improving on his FP1 performance.
Toyota’s Rory Butcher also improved on his earlier performance to end the session in fourth, just under four tenths off the pace, ahead of Rowbottom in fifth, the Honda driver failing to improve on the time which sent him to the top in the first third of the session.
BTC Racing’s Senna Proctor was sixth, ahead of Excelr8 Motorsport’s Tom Ingram in seventh, MB Motorsport’s Jake Hill in eighth, Laser Tools Racing’s Ash Sutton in ninth and BTC Racing’s morning pace-setter Josh Cook in tenth.
After crashing out of first practice and bringing proceedings to an end in first practice, Team BMW’s Stephen Jelley joined the session later after his West Surrey Racing mechanics finished off repairing his car.
Jelley was ultimately 19th fastest, over a second off the pace after completing just 12 laps. Nevertheless he was ahead of team-mate Colin Turkington who took part in the whole 45-minutes of running, the Northern Irishman just 20th quickest.
Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 14:45 BST.
