Ash Sutton extends championship lead with race two win

NAPA Racing UK’s Ash Sutton continued his dominance of the 2026 British Touring Car Championship in race two at Thruxton, claiming victory after battling past Josh Cook at the end of the opening lap.

Race one winner Cook started from pole position and initially had to defend from Sutton through the first corner and into the Complex. The Toyota driver then held the advantage until Church corner, where a slight slide lost him momentum and allowed Sutton to seize the lead up Woodham Hill and into the chicane.

Sutton was then able to open up a margin of around a second over Cook. Meanwhile Team VERTU’s Tom Ingram, from fifth on the grid, had moved into fourth after a poor opening lap from Senna Proctor, and the Hyundai driver claimed third from Plato Racing’s Daniel Rowbottom on lap five at the exit of Seagrave corner.

Ingram caught Cook by lap 11 and made his move into the chicane on lap 12; but the duo touched, sending Cook into a slide and forcing Ingram to skip across the chicane and into second.

However, Ingram was later hit by a ten-second penalty for exceeding track limits, which promoted Cook, who by now was over six seconds adrift of Sutton, back into second.

Sutton scored his sixth win of the season ahead of Cook, although his start was being investigated after the race for a possible infringement of the regulations.

NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish completed the podium, having made two strong moves around the outside into the chicane during the race – firstly by passing Plato Racing’s Adam Morgan for fifth on lap three, then later by repeating the move against Rowbottom four laps later.

Rowbottom took fourth, whilst Ingram was classified in fifth after his penalty was applied.

Restart Racing’s James Dorlin was the top Independent in sixth, ahead of Morgan in seventh and Power Maxed Racing’s Mikey Doble in eighth.

The top ten was completed by Laser Tools Racing duo Árón Taylor-Smith and Gordon Shedden.

Race three is scheduled to get underway at 17:30 BST.
