Ignacio Montenegro lowered the benchmark in another wet TCR Europe practice session at the Salzburgring in Austria, as the ALM Motorsport driver lapped over three tenths of a second faster than Monlau Motorsport’s Franco Girolami.
Argentine Montenegro put his Honda at the top of the times with a lap of 1 minute 33.235 seconds, some half a second quicker than in the wet opening session earlier in the day.
It was once again an Argentine 1-2 at the top of the times, with the CUPRA of Girolami, who had topped FP1, in second, 0.354 seconds behind.
SP Compétition’s Aurélien Comte was third fastest once again, within a tenth of title rival Girolami, ahead of GOAT Racing’s Santiago Concepcion, who improved on his performance from FP1.
ALM’s Levente Losonczy was fifth, ahead of Felipe Fernández in sixth.
Viktor Andersson put his MA:GP Lynk & Co in seventh, ahead of the second SP Compétition CUPRA of Giovannni Scamardi in eighth.
The top ten was completed by the CUPRA of Monlau Motorsport’s Viktor Davidovski and the Honda of GOAT Racing’s Rubén Fernández.
The session had due to be half an hour, but Felipe Fernández Gil went off at Turn 10 after ten minutes, having been on course for the best lap until that point, resulting in a red flag delay.
Comtoyou Racing’s Nicola Baldan continued to lap off the pace as the lead Audi, the Italian in 11th some 1.6 seconds adrift.
Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 17:30 CEST (16:30 BST).
