Tom Chilton leads the charge in second Brands practice

EXCELR8 Motorsport’s Tom Chilton set the pace in the second British Touring Car Championship practice session around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, as times ended up slightly slower than in first practice.

Chilton put his Hyundai on top of the times just under 25 minutes into the session, which was red-flagged just three minutes later when NAPA Racing UK’s Daniel Rowbottom went off into the barriers at Paddock Hill bend, using up seven of the final 13 minutes.

Chilton’s top time was 48.047 seconds, which ended up being a tenth slower than Árón Taylor-Smith had gone in the opening session of the day.

Despite causing the red flag, Rowbottom was still the leading Ford in second, 0.171 seconds from Chilton, with team-mate Dan Cammish in third, a further 0.013 seconds back.

Josh Cook continued to be the quickest of the Speedworks Motorsport-run Toyotas in fourth, ahead of EXCELR8’s Ronan Pearson in fifth, exactly a quarter of a second off the pace.

Adam Morgan was the best BMW in sixth, with FP1 pace-setter Taylor-Smith putting his Vauxhall in seventh, four tenths slower than he had gone earlier on.

The top ten was completed by Speedworks’ Aiden Moffat, NAPA Racing’s Ashley Sutton and Laser Tools Racing’s Jake Hill.

Both factory Toyotas continued to struggle to break into the top ten, with Andrew Watson and Rob Huff in 14th and 15th respectively.

Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 15:25 BST.
