Jake Hill feeling ‘stronger than ever’ ahead of season start

Laser Tools Racing’s Jake Hill says he is feeling ‘stronger than ever’ ahead of the start of the British Touring Car Championship this weekend at Donington Park.

Hill is entering into this third season in the rear-wheel drive BMW prepared by West Surrey Racing, and after leading the BMW charge in 2023, says he is feeling ‘ready for battle’ after comprehensive pre-season preparations.

The 30-year-old finished third overall in both 2022 and 2023, in both years as WSR’s leading driver, and last year was arguably his strongest yet as Hill won six times and visited the podium on 12 occasions.

Hill also won at Donington Park on his first weekend in the BMW in 2022, and last year scored three podiums out of the six races held at the Leicestershire circuit.

Now entering into his eighth full season in the BTCC, Hill has benefitted from pre-season testing with WSR at Brands Hatch, Croft, Donington Park and Pembrey, leaving him with high confidence for this weekend’s races.

“I cannot wait to hit the track at Donington Park this weekend and kick off the 2024 season,” said Hill. “Pre-season preparations have been seamless, with the team working tirelessly to bring improvements to our package.

“Heading into my third year with WSR and Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport I feel stronger than ever.

“The competition looks like it might be even more intense than last year, but we’re ready for battle. The ‘Laser Beamer’ has felt really good in testing in both the wet and dry conditions, so whatever happens, we’ll give it our all to make sure it’s a weekend and a season to remember.

“Throughout testing, we have shown great potential and we’ll be looking to turn that into strong results when we get going this weekend.

“I have fond memories of Donington, and I always enjoy racing here so we’ll be aiming high for the opening round.

“I’m hopeful that we can set the tone for the season from the start and have the BMW 330e M Sport as the car to beat this season.”

MB Motorsport Sporting Director Mark Blundell, who manages Hill, is expecting Hill to be a title contender this year.

“The countdown to the start of the season at Donington Park is on,” added Blundell. “We’re carrying high expectations this year, confident in our exceptional team, fantastic partners, and the skill of our twelve-time race winner, Jake Hill.

“With all the pieces in place, we’re poised to challenge for the championship again this season, aiming to kick off the campaign in stellar fashion this weekend.”
