Daniel Lloyd switches to Porsche Carrera Cup GB

Daniel Lloyd will leave touring car racing for the 2024 season, switching to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB after three successive seasons in the British Touring Car Championsip.

Lloyd previously contested the series in 2012 and 2013, and spent several years prior to his touring car racing switch in 2017 in various GT series.

Since 2017, Lloyd has focussed on touring car racing, both in the BTCC and TCR. He won the inaugural TCR UK series in 2018, and was a race winner in TCR Europe and TCR Malaysia in 2019 and 2020 before moving back to the BTCC full-time for 2021.

Lloyd’s most successful BTCC season came in 2022, when he won three races and finished tenth overall when racing with EXCELR8 Motorsport.

Last year, a switch to Team HARD proved to be more challenging and Lloyd was unable to add any more podium finishes to his name, scoring a best finish of fifth.

The 31-year-old will thus remain on the BTCC package by joining team Toro Verde in the Carrera Cup, where he will race the latest Type 992 Carrera Cup car.

“I’m delighted to announce my plans for 2024, and returning to Carrera Cup GB will be like coming home after my time as the Porsche Scholarship driver earlier in my career,” said the Huddersfield racer.

“Since the end of last season, I’ve spent time looking at the different options that were available to me and the series ticked many of the boxes.

“As well as benefitting from a high profile on the BTCC package, the fact it is a one-make series means it is hugely competitive as everyone has the same package underneath them – and of course there is the association with one of the most prestigious brands in motorsport.

“Toro Verde are serious about wanting to fight for the title this season, and I’m confident that we can rise to the challenge and be firmly in contention for victories.

“I’ve known Jules [Westwood, Team Manager] for a number of years and he was keen to get me in the car, so the focus now is on delivering the results and helping the team to progress.

“As ever, this deal wouldn’t have been possible without the backing of my commercial partners, and I have to thank them for their ongoing support.

“They are as excited as I am for the year ahead, and hopefully at the end of the season, we’ll have reason to celebrate at my annual partners trackday and dinner ball.

“It’s also great that I’ll still be racing in front of the fans who have been so supportive in recent seasons in the BTCC, and I hope they will continue to get behind me in this new venture.”

David Fairbrother, Toro Verde Team Owner, said that Lloyd was joining the team despite having received offers elsewhere.

“Dan had many offers in other series, including BTCC and British GT3, so for him to choose to compete with Toro Verde is testament to his belief that the team will deliver,” said Fairbrother.

“Dan is naturally down to earth, friendly, and helpful and his past experience will prove invaluable when working alongside our engineers to coach the team’s Am and Pro-Am drivers.”
