Portimão confirmed as the host for the TCR World Ranking Final

The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, Portugal has been confirmed as the host venue for the TCR World Ranking Final from 1 – 3 March next year.

The circuit already hosted the TCR World Tour and TCR Europe earlier this year, and will now also play host to the first-ever TCR World Ranking Final.

The event is set to see 60 competitors, occupying the top-ranked TCR World Ranking positions, from various national, regional and international TCR series’ do battle for the biggest prize in touring car racing.

The entry will comprise the top 15 drivers in the TCR World Tour, along with the other top 45 drivers from the TCR World Ranking, taking out the top TCR World Tour drivers.

The event will take place over three days, with Friday predominantly being practice, before qualifying and play-off races take place on Saturday. Sunday will then see further qualification, a repechage race and the Grand Final races.

“We are excited to bring the first ever TCR World Ranking Final to Portimão, a circuit where touring cars always provide entertaining races,” said WSC Group President Marcello Lotti.

“Its up-and-down layout, wide carriageway and safe run-off areas provide the best possible setting for the door-to-door battles between the TCR drivers.

“On top of this, the facilities are big enough to accommodate such a large field, and the staff – management, services and marshals – are amongst the most professional in the business.”

Paulo Pinheiro, CEO Parkalgar, the company which operates the circuit, is proud to be hosting the first-ever TCR World Ranking final.

“It is a source of pride for all of us at Autódromo Internacional de Algarve to host the first ever TCR World Ranking Final,” said Pinheiro.

“We have always had friendly relationship with Marcello Lotti and the WSC Group. Now, our cooperation takes another step forward with an event that will attract to Portugal the best sixty Touring Car drivers from all over the world.”
