Ash Sutton extends big championship gap with pole at Brands Hatch

Ash Sutton has made it a 45 point gap between himself and Tom Ingram after pole position means 20 points is all Sutton needs on Sunday.

Sutton led from early on before a red flag was brought out. The red flag was for George Gamble spinning on the exit of Sheene Curve leaving the barrier needing repairs. Sutton set a 1:29.823.

Rory Butcher was the first driver in the 1:30’s as he fell short of pole by 0.253 seconds. Butcher not taking pole means that Sutton has taken six of the 10 pole positions this year. NAPA Racing UK have taken nine of the 10 poles.

Tom Ingram has left himself in a difficult position to take the fight to Sutton on Sunday. Starting from third place, Ingram now needs a full score hoping that Sutton scores less than 20. That is the total of one race win across all three races.

Dan Rowbottom had a great qualifying putting his Ford into fourth place. The gap to the top three was only 0.019 seconds. The pace was not quite the same as teammate Sutton as the gap from him to Butcher is the same from Butcher to ninth.

Bobby Thompson put together a great performance making the Cupra the fourth quickest manufacturer on the day. An even tighter gap to Rowbottom in front as it was only 0.004 seconds that prevented hima top four performance.

In sixth Dan Cammish made it three Fords inside the top six. Cammish drove well having the largest gap to the driver in front few rows with the gap still only being 0.035 seconds. Somehow the gap behind was even tighter.

Colin Turkington was the first of the BMW’s in seventh with only a 0.003 second gap to Cammish ahead. Behind was MB Motorsport’s Jake Hill who was the first driver over one tenth of the driver ahead since Butcher.

Splitting all of the BMW’s is Power Maxed Racing’s Mikey Doble. After a pole position in Silverstone best in the team will be a good takeaway for the rookie. As the Jack Sears’ Trophy also gets decided tomorrow with teammate Andrew Watson his nearest rival in 13th.

Rounding out the top 10 is Adam Morgan. Morgan set a 1:30.348 to place himself only 0.110 seconds from eighth place. After a missed session in Free Practice One the performance has been an impressive one. Everything is all decided on Sunday.
