Josh Cook: ‘We expected more from today’ after recovering to a podium at Knockhill

Josh Cook showed that the One Motorsport Honda had plenty of pace at Knockhill, qualifying on the front row and a podium in race three. Unfortunately his race one ended up in the barriers after a collision with Ash Sutton. A situation Cook said was ‘not ideal’.

“Yeah, I mean we expected more from today, starting on the front row, just so close to starting on pole. Leading race one in the dry, the heavens opened and those changeable conditions really hurt us.

“Ended up stuck out there on slicks, ended up in the barrier which was not ideal. To end up coming from in the barrier at the end of race one on the podium in race three shows how good a car we’ve got.

“I think we earned that in race two on the medium tyre, I think we’d have had a good shot at the win if we were on the softs in the dry, but yeah, the Scottish weather opened up again”.

As Cook said, he brought the car through from 24th on the grid to finish eighth in race two. Not only that, but he did it on the medium tyre as the majority around him were on softs.

“Yeah, I mean the car was incredible, we had some real strengths in it and it allowed me to just hook off people. It takes a lot, not only to have a quick car to compete and move forward, but to move forward at the rate that we did was just incredible.

“So huge credit to the team, they’ve just kept working, they’ve kept pushing even though we’ve been struggling at the start of the year. Hopefully we’re going to have a really good end to the season”.

Moving forward the championship returns to Donington Park on the GP circuit. Despite that being the case, Cook is not 100% on how he will perform.

“I don’t know how we’re going to go back to Donington, we obviously haven’t tested that circuit, we didn’t do the tyre test, so it’ll be interesting to see how we get on.

“I’m sure we’ll just keep working on the car, keep working on myself and just extract as much performance out of the equipment that we’ve got that we can”.
