Ash Sutton takes yet another pole ahead of title rival Tom Ingram – Donington GP

Ash Sutton has taken pole position for the fifth time this season making NAPA Racing UK taking all eight pole positions so far. The pole position means the championship leader now has 22 points this season from bonus points.

At the present time there were moments were Sutton looked like he might well be human but his last attempt pushed him clear even further. Setting a time of 1:33.154 meant that no one got near one tenth of the #116 car.

Tom Ingram had one of his best qualifying performances of the season considering he did not break the top 20 all morning. After setting a 1:33.336 Ingram was 0.182 seconds behind his championship rival.

Ricky Collard cemented the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK pace placing his car in the top three even with odd tyres on the car. The #37 had softs on the fronts and mediums on the rears. In the end Collard was 0.396 seconds off of Suttons pace setting time.

In fourth was Colin Turkington who was highest placed BMW. The pace was almost there for the Team BMW car after missing out on the top three by 0.031 seconds. Turkington completed the most laps of the entire session but never quite found the pace to break the front runners.

Árón Taylor-Smith put together a spectacular lap placing his Vauxhall Astra inside the top five. The lap of 1:33.642 meant that there was five manufacturers inside the top five. The time was only 0.061 seconds off the back of Turkington.

In sixth was Jake Hill who did well to recover after an early off at the Old Hairpin. Hill was the last driver inside of a tenth of the driver in front outside of the top three. Third to sixth was incredibly tight covered by 0.173 seconds.

Josh Cook placed his One Motorsport Honda in seventh place. Setting a 1:33.842 Cook was 0.119 behind Hill in front. Cook, as had everyone else, had his session halted with 19 minutes to go as Nick Halstead span at the Fogarty Esses bringing out the red flag.

Adam Morgan finished the session in eighth making it three BMW’s inside the top eight. Just narrowly missing out on seventh place by 0.013 seconds. Again just pipping Ronan Pearson in the second EXCELR8 Hyundai by 0.049 seconds.

Dan Rowbottom rounded out the top 10 making it two NAPA Racing UK Fords in the top 10. Not quite on the pace of teammate Sutton, Rowbottom had a 0.790 seconds gap to his teammate. The grid is set for an entertaining trio of races on Sunday.
