Ash Sutton breaks more records to make it two from two at Thruxton

Ash Sutton, for the second time on Sunday, produced a controlling lights to flag victory in the NAPA Racing UK Ford. The win over championship rival Tom Ingram has extended the championship lead to 17 points.

Sutton has made it a habit at the start of races to make sure that he pulls a gap. This happened again after the championship leader had a lead of 2.4 seconds after two laps. The gap would only drop under a second one one lap before the gap grew to 2.2 seconds at the line.

The win makes it six wins in the last seven races. Along with that he now has had three double win weekends in a row. There is no better form than Ash Sutton and the NAPA Racing UK Ford right now.

Ingram put up more of a fight in race two but did not quite have the pace after losing a gap in the opening exchanges. In the early laps Ingram was mainly focused on Josh Cook behind. At half race distance that gap grew as he looked forward to Sutton.

Cook ended up in no man’s land towards the end of the race being over four seconds behind Ingram and over two seconds ahead of fourth. The main phase of the race happened early on as Cook found out after only one move being made inside the top 10 in the last 10 laps.

Jake Hill, like the front three, also finished exactly where he started. The MB Motorsport driver was not alone in the race though as the fast charging Dan Cammish was moving forward.

Cammish also finished where he started after originally losing a position on the opening lap. The NAPA Racing UK driver would return the favour on Rory Butcher of lap six unable to pass Hill before the flag.

Colin Turkington finished in sixth, which if not for his move on Butcher on lap 15 would have meant he would also not finish where he started. Turkington did so and the two places Butcher picked up on the opening lap were conceded throughout the race.

Árón Taylor-Smith quickly arrived on the rear bumper of Butcher at the closing stages of the race. Unable to get past the Scot finishing only 0.408 seconds behind. Taylor-Smith was one of three drivers to pass teammate Mikey Doble on the opening lap.

Ricky Collard managed to break into the top 10 for the first time on Sunday to finish ninth. Like some drivers in front the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK driver had a large margin in front and behind. The team will have mixed emotions after a double top 10 finish but with George Gamble retiring.

Aiden Moffat headed a four car train to round out the top 10. The One Motorsport driver had a large gap to Collard in front but had the following three cars finish within 1.625 seconds.
