Championship leader Dan Cammish flies to wet pole position at Brands Hatch

Dan Cammish put a superb lap together in his NAPA Racing UK Ford to take pole on his final attempt at Brands Indy.

Cammish put a lap together that took pole by 0.271 seconds despite it only being a short lap setting a 55.297 second lap in the process. Behind Cammish was four-time champion Colin Turkington in the Team BMW car narrowly securing the front row.

Jake Hill in the MB Motorsport BMW is who Turkington beat to the front row out placing Hill by 0.006 seconds. Pole Sitter Cammish’s teammate Ash Sutton completed the second row alongside Hill having only finished behind the BMW driver by 0.064 seconds.

Turkington was top with five minutes remaining ahead of Hill and Cammish with only 0.061 separating the trio. Things looked like they were not going to change until Cammish went second with a minute to go and then on his next and final lap he wiped the floor with the field.

Rory Butcher was certainly a driver taking risks in his Toyota Gazoo Racing UK car in fifth. Butcher had a total of three offs across the first qualifying session being able to put a lap together to still be less than 0.200 seconds from the front row.

Bobby Thompson also pulled out a performance that will leave many people scratching their heads as the Team Hard Cupra seemed a completely different car as it was in Donington. Thompson put in a 54.802 second qualifying lap to take sixth and even beat the reigning champion Tom Ingram.

Ingram was next in his EXCELR8 Hyundai to put together a good performance to get the car to seventh. Apart from Cammish’s monster gap at the front of the field Ingram was the first driver not within 0.100 seconds of the car in front and maximising the performance in the wet. A car to look out for on race day with the weather not expected to be as wet as the Saturday.

The Cupra’s continued to perform with Dan Lloyd and Team Hard following Thompsons performance and getting a second car inside the top 10. Alongside the Cupra driver was Ronan Pearson in his EXCELR8 Hyundai rounding out the top 10 in very wet conditions at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
