Isaac Smith joins TCR Europe grid for season opener

Isaac Smith will join the grid of the TCR Europe season opener in Portimão later this month, racing a Volcano Motorsport-prepared second-generation Audi RS3 LMS TCR.

Smith came close to winning the 2022 TCR UK series, despite racing in an old Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR, with a consistent campaign that saw him finish all races inside the top seven, but miss out on a first victory.

The 2022 TCR UK runner-up has recently tested with the Spanish team at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Whilst the announcement only makes reference to an entry in the first round of the season, Smith is keen to compete in more events in the regional series in 2023.

“Last year in TCR UK showed that even in an older TCR car, the Volkswagen Golf, I was capable of setting competitive times and scoring podiums across the season,” said Smith.

“Consistency kept me in the hunt and I can use that knowledge again when I make my debut in TCR Europe at the end of this month.

“The best teams in TCR competition have already announced their entries for the Kumho TCR World Tour and by taking part in the opening round at Portimão, I can test myself against the best and show what I can do in the Volcano Motorsport Audi.

“I’m looking at expanding my TCR Europe programme which looks incredibly competitive for 2023.”

The opening round of TCR Europe also acts as the first round of the 2023 TCR World Tour, which offers drivers 50% more TCR World Ranking points than other events.
