Tom Chilton has taken his first win of the season in the EXCELR8 Hyundai after dramatic opening laps in inclement conditions. Chilton pitted after the first lap to put on wet tyres in a gamble which paid off tremendously.
Adam Morgan in the Team BMW car also made the decision to pit after the opening lap after the safety car had been brought out for a stricken Ricky Collard. The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK driver had a broken front left suspension and could not get off the circuit to a safe place.
Not everyone had pitted at this point and this meant that Chilton was P16 and Morgan P13 at the restart. They both went on the charge instantly as the race got back underway with Morgan moving up to P6 at the end of the opening lap with Chilton close behind in P8.
It was then as they were getting past the remaining drivers as Chilton overtook Morgan in the opening sector.
Ronan Pearson took his first podium in the EXCELR8 Hyundai to make it two drivers for the team on the rostrom. Pearson finished ahead of Sam Osborne who was the highest placed NAPA Racing UK Ford. However, Pearson was later excluded from the result for failing the post-race ride height check.
Stephen Jelley was next to reach the finish line after some close racing in the opening exchanges left the Team BMW driver on his own for the rest of the race.
Next was the furthest forward close battle in the second half of the race once everyone had pulled into the pits to put on the wets. The battle was between Mikey Doble in the CarStore Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall and Nicholas Hamilton in the Go-Fix with Autoaid Breakdown Cupra. Doble was getting closer after every lap that past before finally getting the move complete into the final corner on the last lap.
Hamilton had originally been up in P4 but had a moment on the exit of the chicane that pushed him back down to P6 before his battle with Doble took place.
Nick Halstead would finish in P8 in the BRISTOL STREET MOTORS with EXCELR8 Hyundai ahead of Colin Turkington in the P9 Team BMW. Turkington making the decision to pit after the first lap of the restart hindering the rest of the race.
Tom Ingram, race one podium holder, also made a move on the final lap in his Hyundai to take the final spot within the top 10. Ingram started the final lap behind of Bobby Thompson in his Autobrite Direct with Miller Oils Cupra and ended the lap with a 1.3 second advantage.
The race ended up being so split that everyone who was behind P12 Dan Rowbottom in the NAPA Racing UK Ford, race one pole sitter, was not on the lead lap.
