José Manuel Sapag joins Toyota Team Argentina for 2023 TCR South America

José Manuel Sapag will race for Toyota Team Argentina in the 2023 TCR South America series, partnering fellow Argentine Bernardo Llaver at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla TCR.

Sapag, who has contested both of the first two seasons of TCR South America, will change team for the third time in as many seasons.

After making his début in 2021 in a Honda for Squadra Martino, he moved to PMO Motorsport for 2022 and raced a Lynk & Co 03 TCR.

Last year he equalled his best finish in the championship – fourth overall – whilst also picking up his maiden win in the series at El Pinar.

Prior to racing in TCR South America, 27-year-old Sapag also competed in his national Súper TC2000 series, whilst also making sporadic appearances in TCR Europe in 2018 and 2020 and the FIA World Touring Car Cup as a wildcard in 2020.

“I am happy to continue in TCR, which is a category that I like a lot and has a lot of projection,” said Sapag.

“I like that we have two dates shared with the TCR World Tour and am very excited about the challenge of joining Toyota and developing the new car. Hopefully we can be fast together with the team.”

Team Director Dario Ramonda believes he has a good combination of drivers in Llaver and Sapag for 2023.

“We are ready to start a new challenge in our activity in motorsport,” added Ramonda. “I’m very enthusiastic about TCR South America’s proposal in 2023, and its future projection.

“It is also a special motivation when competing on Argentine, Uruguayan and Brazilian circuits, some that we don’t know, added to the participation in the TCR World Tour, with a great technical team that already successfully put the Corolla TCR on track at the end of last season.

“We have a solid team of drivers, made up of Bernardo Llaver, who has already made some starts in the category showing his experience, and Manu Sapag, who has the most experience and knowledge of the championship, having obtained very good results in South America and also in the races he completed in Europe.”
