Halder Motorsport’s Jack Young ensured he remained the man to beat in practice for the TCR Europe series at Monza, with the Honda driver once again topping the times in the afternoon’s second session.
Northern Irishman Young had earlier set the benchmark in first practice when he posted a fastest lap of 1 minute 56.475 seconds to edge out Tom Coronel to the top time.
In second practice, the Honda driver was gain fastest, lowering the target time to a 1:56.075 when he hit the top of the timesheets just after the halfway point of the session.
Comtoyou Racing’s Coronel thus had to again settle for second, the Audi driver only marginally improving his lap from earlier in the day to end up 0.462 seconds shy of Young, having himself hit the top of the times at the halfway mark of the 30-minute session.
Target Competition’s Felice Jelmini put in a better performance than earlier in the day, improving his lap times by seven tenths of a second to end up in third as the top Hyundai driver, ahead of championship leader Franco Girolami’s Audi in fourth.
Elite Motorsport’s Marco Butti once again showed he had strong pace, posting the fifth fastest lap for the second successive session, the Audi driver ending up as the only other driver within a second of the pace.
Volcano Motorsport’s Klim Gavrilov was the best CUPRA driver in sixth, ahead of Janík Motorsport’s Jáchym Galáš, the Czech racer once again ending up in seventh.
Sébastien Loeb Racing’s John Filippi was slightly closer to the ultimate pace this time in eighth, whilst the top ten was completed by Aggressive Team Italia’s Pepe Oriola and Target Competition’s Josh Files.
For Files, tenth will comes a disappointment after the Brit was earlier 11th in first practice. The Hyundai racer gained five tenths of a second in second practice, but was still over 1.2 seconds off the pace, as the title contender seeks to outscore rival Girolami this weekend.
Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 09:30 CEST (08:30 BST) on Saturday.
