Norbert Michelisz headed BRC Racing team-mate Mikel Azcona in the second FIA World Touring Car Cup practice session at Anneau du Rhin, as times didn’t quite match those set earlier in the day.
The Hyundai driver was only marginally ahead of championship leader Azcona, with just 0.003 seconds separating the duo.
“It was okay, a bit more tricky from the inside than FP1,” said Michelisz. “But the important thing is we seem to have the pace, although I think we had tyre advantage compared to the others, so I am not sure if this is reality.
“The car is working well and we are looking forward to qualifying, but also not sure what to expect.”
Attila Tassi improved no his ranking from first practice to end the session as the top Honda driver in third, whilst Comtoyou Racing’s Nathanaël Berthon, who had led the way in first practice, was fourth as the top Audi driver – also within a tenth of a second of the fastest time.
Münnich Motorsport’s Néstor Girolami was fifth, ahead of the next Audi of Gilles Magnus, who had reported an issue with his brake pedal, in sixth.
Tom Coronel was the cause of the red flag in first practice, but the Audi driver made no such mistake this time around and was seventh, ahead of Münnich’s Esteban Guerrieri in eighth, still within half a second of Michelisz.
Team Engstler’s Tiago Monteiro and Comtoyou’s Mehdi Bennani completed the top ten.
Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 15:00 CEST (14:00 BST).
