Jake Hill claims pole position for the 2022 British Touring Car Championship visit to Knockhill.
The BMW driver finished more than two seconds clear of the rest of the field to secure his second pole position of the season.
Hill had jumped to the top of the order early on, with a lap time of 50.858s putting him comfortably ahead of Colin Turkington and Tom Ingram.
However, he continued to lower that benchmark and stretch his advantage over the remainder of the session.
The red flags were brought out with a little under five minutes on the clock at Nic Hamilton lost the rear of his Cupra and ended up in the gravel. It was only a brief stoppage, as Hamilton managed to get out of the gravel under his own power moments after the red flags fell.
Hill continued to find pace when the action resumed, lowering the benchmark to 50.726s by the chequered flag.
Ash Sutton jumped up to second late in the session, finishing 0.206s back. Championship rival Turkington joins him at the sharp end of the field, placing third overall, ahead of Adam Morgan and Stephen Jelley.
Hamilton wasn’t the only driver to find gravel during the qualifying session. Jason Plato managed to put his car in the gravel at Clark’s after losing the rear end, but was able to keep going. Sutton also dipped his wheels into the gravel multiple times and was forced to abandon what had looked like a strong flying lap late on after a number of mistakes.
Ciceley Motorsport’s Tom Gamble came through to qualify in sixth ahead of the leading Toyota of Rory Butcher.
Ingram dropped down to eighth by the chequered flag. Aiden Moffat and Dan Cammish rounded out the top ten.
