Ingram: ‘A little hybrid depoloyment’ made the car feel ‘phenomenal’

Tom Ingram’s mixed start to the 2022 British Touring Car Championship played a part in securing pole position at Oulton Park, according to the Exceler8 driver.

Ingram picked up his first pole position of the season with a time almost two tenths of a second quicker than any one else.

It comes only one round after Ingram admitted he had ground to make up after a mixed start to the season.

After three rounds, Ingram lies fourth in the championship standings, 28 points behind leader Josh Cook.

But that mixed start to the season may be responsible for helping Ingram turn around his Oulton Park luck.

“Really, really pleased with [qualifying], it was great to get it off my back,” he said.

“[Oulton Park] hasn’t been the kindest circuits to me over the years; I think it’s been a bi-product of having quite a strong start to the year. I’ve always come here with quite a lot of ballast in the past.

“So to be able to come in with a little bit of hybrid deployment still means we can make the car feel fantastic, and it felt phenomenal. It was the best I’ve had a car around here. It just did everything I wanted it to, so I’m really pleased.”

Ingram was able to use 4.5s of hybrid deployment per lap in qualifying.

With a strong qualifying performance out of the way, the Hyundai driver is optimistic about his race chances.

“We did a slightly longer run throughout FP1 and the car felt great in that, and a good qualifying car usually means you’ve got quite a good race car,” he continued.

“I hope that’s the case, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed. I’m going to get an early night tonight and see how we end up. It’s in good shape, the car’s feeling great.”
