Senna Proctor ‘didn’t actually believe’ he could set Brands Hatch pole time

BTC Racing’s Senna Proctor admitted his first lap was the “best lap I had” before going on to snatch pole position away from teammate Josh Cook for the first race of the weekend.

Proctor will line up on pole after setting the fastest time of the session in the dying minutes of the session having on his previous lap manage a second fastest time aboard the BTC Honda Civic.

However he went faster again on his final run and ended the session 0.011 seconds quicker than his teammate.

“It was a tough session that one,” explained Proctor.

“I was halfway through thinking it wasn’t doable that lap time but once I came over the line and saw my dash was up, my delta was up and crossed the line it was a good feeling.
“I knew it would be close but thankfully I grabbed it off Josh. But you know the main thing is BTC Racing is 1-2. Bring on the races tomorrow.”

“The car has been quick. This BTC Racing car has been on rails today and once he did that time with 15 minutes to go there was big pressure on me because I didn’t actually believe I could do that lap time.

“I thought it was the best lap I had. But we pushed on, the tyre pressures were better the second time and we got the lap in.”

Proctor, who missed the opening rounds of the season at Thruxton before he joined the championship from round two onwards aboard the BTC Racing Civic, also admitted that his strong performances this season hasn’t really made him think about what might have been had competed in the full season.

“A little bit (it’s gone through my head),” said Proctor to ITV.

“I might have been a little higher in the championship and took a bit more weight penalties into each round.

“When we’ve carried the weight we’ve been competitive but I’m not saying by any means we would have toppled the top five in the championship.

“But I think we would have been coming in mathematical contention and been there or thereabouts.”

Race one is scheduled to take place at 11:30 BST on Sunday.
