Klim Gavrilov switches to Volcano Motorsport CUPRA for finale

Russian racer Klim Gavrilov will switch to a CUPRA Leon Competición run by Volcano Motorsport for this weekend’s TCR Europe season finale in Barcelona, as he looks to his options for the 2022 season.

Gavrilov, 21, joined the TCR Europe grid full-time in 2021, racing an Audi RS3 LMS TCR for VRC-Team.

His best result to-date has been fourth in the season-opening meeting in Slovakia, and Gavrilov currently sits 15th overall in the drivers’ championship.

Gavrilov is a multiple race winner in TCR Russia, where he raced full-time between 2017 and 2020.

Volcano Motorsport has run a brace of the new CUPRA cars in 2021 for Mikel Azcona and Evgenii Leonov. Gavrilov is to race one of the cars as he looks ahead to next year’s TCR Europe season.

“After a full season with the Audi, Klim Gavrilov has decided to try out a new car provided by Volcano Motorsport in cooperation with VRC-Team,” said Volcano Motorsport Team Manager Andrei Tkachenko.

“He is looking forward to the next season of TCR Europe in 2022 and wants to do it with a new car.

“The choice of the CUPRA is a logical one as we have several new Leon Competición cars in our garage and have been very successful this season with Mikel Azcona and Evgenii Leonov, taking victories and podiums in TCR Europe and TCR Italy.

“After two successful years in TCR racing, we are looking for new challenges and want to expand our driver line-up for TCR Europe in 2022.

“Gavrilov is a very successful young Russian driver and will fit perfectly inside the team.”
