Jelley: ‘I will do anything I can’ to help Turkington win title

Stephen Jelley says he will do ‘anything I can’ to help his Team BMW team-mate Colin Turkington to secure the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Turkington heads into the season finale 32 points behind leader Ash Sutton, and will need all the support he can get to be in with a chance of a fifth title.

Jelley is set for his best season in the BTCC since 2009, when he was team-mate to Turkington, and the 39-year-old could secure a top ten end of year ranking on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit – Jelley is just 16 points behind tenth-placed Daniel Rowbottom.

The Leicester racer is confident of a strong end to the season, as he expects the circuit to be a strong one for the rear-wheel drive machinery.

“I think Brands Hatch is going to suit the 3 Series,” said Jelley, who secured his best finish on the circuit last year, when he claimed third in race three. “The car has been quick there in the past as well, so I am looking forward to it.

“It’s a circuit that I really like, I had a podium there last year and I’ve got better equipment now, so I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.

“Colin can still win the championship, so there’s that at play as well and of course I will do anything I can do to help him, and the team have a successful outcome.

“Hopefully the weather conditions will be consistent either way, as it’s a bit less stressful, but I want to focus on my performance as much as possible and go out on high.”
