Halfords Racing with Cataclean’s Gordon Shedden ended the second free practice session of the weekend at Brands Hatch fastest after holding off a late charge from Ginsters EXCELR8 with TradePriceCars.com’s Chris Smiley.
Shedden’s 1 minute 30.800 was 0.021 seconds quicker than Hyundai driver Smiley, although the Hyundai driver could have gone fastest of all if he hadn’t lost time in the second half of his final lap of the session after he had set a fastest of all sector one time.
Saturday afternoon’s second session of the day saw a total of 12 drivers either go quicker or at least match Dan Rowbottom’s FP1 time of 1 minute 31.249, with the top seven drivers all getting into the 1.30s in FP2.
Third in second practice was Laser Tool Racing’s Aiden Moffatt, who was 0.104 slower than pacesetter Shedden, with BTC Racing’s Senna Proctor again high on the leaderboard in fourth.
Fifth in FP2 went to Dan Lloyd in the leading Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall, with teammate Jason Plato just eight thousandth of a second slower in sixth.
Tom Chilton was seventh fastest and 0.072 seconds quicker than FP1 fastest driver Daniel Rowbottom who ended the session eighth quickest.
Ash Sutton, who has a 32 point lead at the top of the Drivers Standings as he continues in his quest for a third title finished the session ninth in the second of the Laser Tools Infiniti’s, while title rival Jake Hill finished FP2 in tenth position.
11th was Jack Goff in the leading Team HARD. CUPRA, while Josh Cook, who had earlier ended FP1 down in 21st, improved in the second session to 12th, while Tom Ingram, who is also in contention for the championship this weekend, finished the session 16th fastest.
Colin Turkington in the Team BMW 330 M Sport, who had also struggled to set a fast time in this morning, could only manage 20th quickest in FP2 at the Kent circuit.
Qualifying at Brands Hatch is set to take place at 15:00 BST.
