Gordon Shedden ends Oulton Park testing on Wednesday with top time

Team Dynamics’ Gordon Shedden ended Wednesday’s second British Touring Car Championship tyre test day with the top time, edging out Tuesday pace-setter Senna Proctor by just under half a second.

The day once again saw a damp start, with MB Motorsport’s Jake Hill posting the fastest lap in the morning session, a time which would prove to be nearly nine seconds slower than later in the day.

Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Rory Butcher was second fastest in the morning, two tenths behind Hill, with PMR’s Daniel Lloyd in third and BMW’s Tom Oliphant in fourth.

The lap times in the afternoon session were immediately faster than those earlier in the day, as Ciceley Motorsport’s Tom Chilton immediately went quicker than Hill’s earlier time on the first flying lap, quickly followed by efforts from Tom Ingram, James Gornall and Jason Plato.

All of the top times came in the first half an hour of the afternoon session, with Shedden eventually putting his Honda on top of the times as rain rolled in to the Cheshire circuit. Indeed the rain was so intense that a red flag was put out after half an hour, limiting the running until later in the afternoon.

The downpours curtailed any subsequent efforts to better the top time, leaving three-time champion Shedden on top ahead of BTC Racing’s Proctor, who had posted his time an hour and 45 minutes into the session in an effort to go quicker as conditions improved following the rain.

PMR’s Jason Plato ended the day with the third fastest time, six tenths from Shedden, ahead of Hill in fourth.

Reigning champion Ash Sutton was fifth in his Infiniti, ahead of the leading Team HARD CUPRA of Jack Goff in sixth, whilst Stephen Jelley emerged as the best of the BMW drivers in seventh, whilst four-time champion team-mate Colin Turkington was just 19^th, 1.3 seconds off the pace.

Overall, Proctor ended the two days with the best lap from Tuesday, ahead of Shedden’s best time set one day prior as the second day of the test ultimately didn’t provide better conditions to allow for further improvements.
