Dušan Borković believes first day of season ‘could have been better’

Dušan Borković admitted that his first day of the new TCR Europe season ‘could have been better’ after the Comtoyou Racing driver dropped from fourth on the grid to seventh in the opening race.

Borković went into the race with high hopes, the Audi RS3 LMS proving to be the car to have after qualifying, where it secured three of the top four places with Boskovic’s team-mate Tom Coronel on pole.

From fourth on the grid, Borković made a slow start and dropped to 11th on the first lap, the Serbian having had few chances to practice starting his new car.

That left the reigning TCR Eastern Europe champion having to fight back in the race, and Borković eventually managed to claw his way back to seventh by the end of the race.

Despite this recovery, the 36-year-old admitted that he was not pleased with his top ten result, still finishing as the lowest-placed of the Comtoyou Racing Audi trio.

“Although my Comtoyou racing team is very happy with the outcome of the first race day, I am not, because I know it could have been better,” admitted Borković.

“I had the fourth starting position and lost it due to a bad start which is a consequence of insufficient knowledge of the car, and I soon lost additional positions after contact with [Klim] Gavrilov I think, when he threw me on the grass.

“I have a hard time getting used to the new tyres that are not similar to the ones I have driven so far, and they definitely do not suit my driving style.

“Tomorrow I will start in the seventh position, based on the inverse order of the first ten drivers from Q2, and I hope that I will not have difficulties at the start like today.”
