Volcano Motorsport will run two CUPRA Leon Competición cars in this year’s TCR Europe series, with Mikel Azcona and Evgenii Leonov once again running with the outfit for the full season.
Azcona and Leonov have worked together at the Spanish team for the past couple of seasons, with Azcona winning three of the four races he contested with the team in the tail end of last year’s championship in the older-spec CUPRA TCR model.
Azcona will be dovetailing his TCR Europe campaign with a full season in the FIA World Touring Car Cup and the new electric PURE ETCR series.
It means Azcona will return full-time to the series which he won in 2018, when his consistency helped him to the title despite only claiming one race win.
Russian Leonov contested all rounds of last year’s TCR Europe season, with the exception of the second event at Zolder. He has also worked with Azcona in the Campeonato de España Resistencia, where the duo shared a CUPRA and claimed six victories which helped Leonov to secure the drivers’ title.
Leonov got his first taste of the new Leon Competición model when he won last weekend’s second race of the Coppa Italia Turismo at Mugello.
