Jack Young to drive for Brutal Fish Racing in TCR Europe

Northern Irishman Jack Young has been confirmed as Brutal Fish Racing’s second driver for the 2021 TCR Europe campaign, where he will race a Honda Civic Type-R.

Young, who was recently announced as being JAS Motorsport’s Development Driver for the 2021 season, will line up alongside Team Principal Martin Ryba and another yet-to-be-confirmed driver.

The 19-year-old previously took part in the Barcelona round of the 2019 TCR Europe season, where he raced a Renault Mégane RS TCR for Vuković Motorsport, achieving two strong fourth-place results in the unproven car.

Young continued with the team for the first two events of the 2020 FIA World Touring Car Cup, before budget issues and a lack of results sidelined his season after he had failed to finish any of the first four races.

Prior to TCR, Young won the 2017 Renault UK Clio Cup Junior title, before ultimately claiming the overall drivers’ title in 2019.

“I’m thrilled to join Brutal Fish Racing Team for the TCR Europe season,” said the Belfast teenager. “They’re a team I’ve been impressed by whenever I’ve raced against them or seen them in the paddock and they’ve had a lot of success in the series.

“As a new JAS Motorsport Development Driver, it makes total sense to race the Honda Civic Type R TCR and the support I’ll receive at race weekends as part of the programme will be invaluable to my development as a professional racing driver on and off the track.

“I’ve only raced at two of the circuits on the calendar, but our test programme both on-track and on the sim should mean that the lack of experience won’t hold me back.

“I can’t wait for the season to start.”

Young will this week begin pre-season testing at Monza, before moving on to further venues which the 2021 TCR Europe season will visit.

“We are very happy to have Jack signed with Brutal Fish Racing Team,” said Ryba. “We see a huge potential in this 19-year-old driver and will work hard to give him the best possible conditions for his career growth.

“Having Jack as a JAS Development Driver within our team starts a new era for BFRT in terms of focusing on the youth-talent development.

“We strongly believe that Jack will be able to score regular podium finishes this year.”
