Münnich Motorsport to run all four Hondas in 2020 WTCR

Münnich Motorsport will run all four Hondas in this year’s FIA World Touring Car Cup, with the German outfit running the cars under two different banners, prefixed by ALL-INKL.DE and ALL-INKL.COM respectively.

The announcement means that Hong Kong-based KCMG will no longer run the two cars for Tiago Monteiro and Attila Tassi, with the Civics instead moving into a sister team at Münnich Motorsport.

Münnich were by far the stronger Honda team in 2019, with Argentine duo Esteban Guerrieri and Néstor Girolami securing seven victories, to KCMG’s one win with Monteiro.

Furthermore, Guerrieri was in title contention all year, finishing as runner-up in the drivers’ standings, with Girolami in seventh, whilst Monteiro and Tassi were just 20th and 24th respectively.

Team Manager Dominik Greiner is expecting a ‘much bigger job’ as a result of the expanded team.

“It’s a challenge we accept,” said Greiner. “We have a very good crew made up of very clever guys, not just working at the track but behind the scenes at our base in Germany.

“For a private team we have a very good operation, we have a lot of experience in WTCR, but also in running multiple cars.

“For sure the two teams will work closely together, sharing data and information. But on the track, they will be separate teams with all four drivers given equal chances to fight for the win.

“The target is to win, that is clear. We came so, so close last season but we left Malaysia with our heads up and we will start the new season with even bigger motivation.

“Our mechanics did a brilliant job in 2019 and are working flat out to build up the cars to begin testing this month.

“Thanks to our mechanics and all our team members, we will be fully prepared and strong from the opening round.”

Münnich Motorsport is heading into its eighth consecutive season in World Touring Cars, and Greiner praised the promotional package on offer in the series.

“It’s the perfect platform with very good TV and promotion. We are making this extra commitment because we firmly believe in the WTCR product and what it brings to us and our partners.”
