BMW Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan was fastest in a drizzly second British Touring Car Championship practice session at the iconic Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.
The 2013 champion, who currently sits third in the standings just 17 points adrift of leader Colin Turkington, was quick throughout the 40-minute session but carried too much speed into Clearways on a couple of occasions.
He then went on to set the benchmark time of 1:35.788s with around ten minutes remaining in the session, before the red flag was thrown due to an off for Sam Osborne.
During the stoppage, rain fell heavier and although runners headed back out on slicks, nobody improved in the final quarter.
That meant Jordan headed local racer Jake Hill by half a second, while Ash Sutton sat third in his Team BMR-run Subaru Levorg despite being 2.400s off Jordan’s timesheet-topping pace.
Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan was fourth in the Mercedes A-Class, while AmD Tuning’s Rory Butcher rounded out the top five.
Stephen Jelley was next in the older BMW 125i M Sport, ahead of BTC Racing’s Chris Smiely, who briefly led the times before falling to seventh.
Reigning champion Colin Turkington was eighth after topping the opening session, and was ahead of Motorbase Performance’s Michael Caine in ninth who will be hoping for a strong result at the team’s home round.
Title contender Josh Cook completed the top ten in the second BTC Racing FK8 Honda Civic, while Silverstone race three winner Jack Goff was 11th in his Team HARD Volkswagen CC.
Double champion Jason Plato placed 12th in his Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall, while Tom CHilton was 13th in the Motorbase Ford Focus RS.
He finished the session ahead of team-mate Ollie Jackson, while Team HARD’s Carl Boardley rounded out the top 15 runners.
Notably, championship protagonist Dan Cammish could only manage 22nd, while double Silverstone winner Tom Ingram was 17th in the Toyota Corolla.
A crucial qualifying session for the opening British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit is scheduled to get underway at 15:05 BST.
