Santiago Urrutia picks up time penalty but keeps third place

Santiago Urrutia has been handed a five-second time penalty for a jump start in the opening TCR Europe race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Crucially, however, the Uruguayan still retains his third-place finish, his best result on board the Audi RS 3 LMS since the opener at Spa-Francorchamps.

It means Jack Young (Vukovic Motorsport) misses out on a podium on debut by just 0.6 seconds.

Urrutia’s podium was well earned; after bogging down slightly at the start, he fought back well to re-pass Teddy Clairet’s Peugeot 308 TCR, and from there kept pace with Andreas Backman’s Hyundai i30 N until the flag.

That was fourth on the road, but a penalty for Josh Files elevated Urrutia to third.

He will start seventh for the reverse-grid contest tomorrow at 12:30 CEST.
