Power Maxed Racing’s Jason Plato continued his fine practice form to go fastest again in the second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Silverstone.
The double champion went four tenths quicker than his first practice benchmark on his 15th tour of 25 around the 1.64-mile Silverstone National layout, setting a time of 57.413s to put him clear by a tenth.
In a similar fashion, Dan Cammish was second again and continued his usual Saturday consistency, this time ahead of team-mate Matt Neal as the pair of FK8 Honda Civics look to be a strong package this weekend.
The 40-minute session was dry for the majority, although rain fell with around 25 minutes remaining, but crucially not enough to substantially affect the surface of the track.
Team Toyota GB’s Tom Ingram was fourth in his Corolla, ahead of another FK8 Civic as Chris Smiley put in a strong performance in fifth for BTC Racing.
Tom Oliphant ended the session in sixth position in the BMW 330i M Sport, ahead of West Surrey Racing stablemate and title contender Andrew Jordan, who ended up seventh despite carrying 48kg of championship ballast.
Knockhill racewinner Jake Hill put his Trade Price Cars Racing Audi S3 eighth, while Adam Morgan was ninth in his Ciceley Motorsport Mercedes A-Class with Ash Sutton completing the top ten in his Subaru Levorg.
AmD Tuning duo Rory Butcher and Mike Bushell were 11th and 12th respectively in their FK2 Honda Civics, with Plato’s Power Maxed Racing team-mate Rob Collard could only manage 13th.
In 14th position was Senna Proctor with Matt Simpson’s FK2 Honda Civic Type R rounding out the top fifteen runners, with the top 27 drivers separated by only a second.
Qualifying for the opening British Touring Car Championship race from Silverstone is scheduled to get underway at 15:15, for a crucial half-hour session on the National layout.
