Josh Cook takes commanding race two victory at Thruxton

BTC Racing’s Josh Cook took a commanding victory in race two of the British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton after taking the lead early on and extending his advantage.

Polesitter Sam Tordoff got a brilliant getaway while fellow front-row starter Dan Cammish bogged down and dropped positions, but eventually the maximum ballast on Tordoff’s Honda took its toll and he fell backwards.

With race one podium finisher Adam Morgan pressurising for the lead on the exit of Church corner on lap four, Cook then capitalised by making use of the double tow and sweeping around the outside to take the lead into the Club chicane.

He then set about building a gap of around two seconds out front but had Morgan for company as the leading pair broke away from the chasing pack, which had been headed by Team BMW’s Tom Oliphant before the final lap.

Halfords Yuasa Racing’s Matt Neal enjoyed great progress in his Honda Civic to eventually steal the final podium position away from Oliphant with a fantastic move around the outside at the final chicane on the last lap.

He beat Oliphant to the rostrum by just 0.080s, while Neal’s team-mate Cammish made a strong recovery in a heavy Honda after his poor start.

Another strong finish from Rob Collard saw him come home sixth in the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall, while Andrew Jordan – who won two races here at Thruxton on the last visit in May – placed seventh ahead of Tom Ingram’s Toyota Corolla.

Reigning champion Colin Turkington was ninth in his BMW 330i M Sport, while race one winner Sam Tordoff completed the top ten in the FK2 Honda Civic.

Ash Sutton’s Subaru Levorg would finish 11th despite a hairy moment on the exit of Goodwood where he was forced to slam on the brakes, locking up to avoid a spin.

Motorbase Performance’s Tom Chilton enjoyed a tight battle with Jason Plato for 12th, while AmD Tuning stablemates Rory Butcher and Jake Hill rounded out the top 15.

The final British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Thruxton is scheduled to get underway at 17:25 BST.
