Dan Cammish takes victory in thrilling rain-affected final Thruxton race

Halfords Yuasa Racing’s Dan Cammish took Team Dynamic’s first victory of the 2019 British Touring Car Championship campaign in a thrilling rain-affected final race at Thruxton.

Cammish started from the first row of the grid but initially dropped back at the start as the fast-starting BMW of Tom Oliphant leapfrogged him.

Oliphant only held second briefly however, as Cammish made the move around the outside at the Club chicane on the third lap.

He then set about pressurising reverse-grid polesitter Rob Collard who had led comfortably for over half the contest, but Collard forced drifted wide through the fast Church corner, compromising his exit and allowing Cammish alongside.

He would complete the move on the brakes for the Club chicane, taking a lead he would not relinquish to the chequered flag, eventually building a gap of nearly two seconds, surviving the final laps when the rain fell heavily and the pack struggled for grip on slicks.

Cammish’s Team Dynamic’s stablemate Matt Neal secured his second podium of the day in third position, while Adam Morgan – another double podium finisher today – capped off a successful Thruxton meeting with a strong fourth position.

Rounding out the top five was Jason Plato who enjoyed a storming drive from 13th on the grid ahead of race two winner Josh Cook in sixth position for BTC Racing.

Team BMW’s Tom Oliphant would finish seventh, while Tom Ingram’s Toyota won what was a fantastic battle for eighth position, fending off Ash Sutton and Andrew Jordan, with the latter completing the top ten.

Race one winner Sam Tordoff came home 11th ahead of AmD Tuning stablemate Jake Hill, while standings leader Colin Turkington was 13th.

Daniel Rowbottom added to his points tally in 14th while Ollie Jackson completed the top fifteen.

The result promotes Cammish up to third in the Drivers’ Championship, four points off second-placed Andrew Jordan and 34 points adrift of leader Colin Turkington.
