Halfords Yuasa Racing’s Dan Cammish edged out fellow Honda runner Matt Simpson by under three-hundredths of a second in the opening British Touring Car Championship practice at Snetterton.
Cammish continued to improve his pace in the final quarter of the 40-minute session, setting the benchmark with a time of 1:55.478 to put him just 0.029s ahead of Simpson’s older FK2 Honda Civic.
Just one thousandth further back was Tom Ingram in the new-for-2019 Toyota Corolla, ahead of Team BMW’s Andrew Jordan, who has secured five wins in the first half of the 2019 campaign.
Completing the top five was Rob Collard, just under a tenth clear of Power Maxed Racing team-mate Jason Plato, who had been the early pacesetter in the session.
Cammish’s team-mate Matt Neal placed seventh, with Tom Oliphant’s BMW 330i in eighth ahead of Jake Hill’s Audi.
Tom Chilton, who was fastest in the summer Snetterton test, rounded out the top ten in his Motorbase Performance Ford Focus RS, ahead of Adam Morgan and Rory Butcher.
Butcher’s AmD Tuning stablemate Sam Tordoff was 13th, with Carl Boardley in 14th ahead of championship leader Colin Turkington, who could only manage 15th in the first session.
Josh Cook, who currently sits third in the standings, languished down in 25th while Ash Sutton was 21st.
The second British Touring Car Championship practice session at the Norfolk circuit is scheduled to get underway at 12:00 BST.
