Halfords Yuasa Racing’s Dan Cammish was quickest in the opening British Touring Car Championship practice session as the series returns to Thruxton this weekend.
Cammish, who has enjoyed a fine run of form in recent meetings, was consistently at the top of the times throughout the session before setting a 1.16:888s as the benchmark.
2017 champion Ash Sutton was nearly two tenths back in his Subaru Levorg, failing to dip under the 1:17s mark and just 0.021s ahead of former team-mate Josh Cook.
BMW Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan, who won two races when the championship last visited the Hampshire circuit in May, had topped the session at one point in the second half but ultimately placed fourth.
The trio of WSR-run cars opted not to set quick laps in the opening half due to damp patches out on track with rain yesterday and overnight, but his team-mates Tom Oliphant and Colin Turkington also ended up in the top ten.
Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan enjoyed a return to the sharp end to complete the top five ahead of Cammish’s Honda team-mate Matt Neal.
Snetterton polesitter and race one winner Tom Ingram was seventh in his Team Toyota GB Corolla, while Oliphant was eighth ahead of Morgan’s Mercedes team-mate Daniel Rowbottom.
Reigning champion Colin Turkington, who extended his championship advantage last time out at Snetterton, would round out the top ten ahead of Senna Proctor’s Subaru.
Oulton Park race winner Stephen Jelley was 12th in the older BMW 125i M Sport, ahead of the Power Maxed Racing duo of Jason Plato and Rob Collard in 13th and 14th respectively.
Trade Price Cars Racing’s Jake Hill completed the top 15 in his AmD Tuning-run Audi S3, while his front-running stablemates Sam Tordoff and Rory Butcher both languished outside the top 20.
The second British Touring Car Championship practice session is set to get underway at 12:05 BST.
