Vernay and Vervisch excluded for overboosting, teams to appeal

Jean-Karl Vernay and Frédéric Vervisch have been excluded from the results of the first FIA World Touring Car Cup race on the streets of Vila Real, with their Audis having been adjudged to have overboosted.

Vernay had originally finished the race in tenth position, taking home six points for the result, but his exclusion from the results means he loses vital championship points.

Vervisch’s exclusion has less significance, as the Belgian was outside the points anyway in 20^th position.

The official stewards decision for Vernay states that “during the post-race one scrutineering procedure, Car 69 was found to be disrespecting the maximum boost pressure published in the BoP Chart for the event (TC-R2019/11). The % low Overboosts points was 0.45% instead of 0.30%”.

Vervisch had the same justification, with a 0.44% overboost.

Both teams are to appeal the decision to the FIA International Court of Appeal (ICA) in line with their rights according to Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code. Therefore, the results of race one remain provisional.
