Luca Engstler claims pole position in Zhejiang qualifying

Luca Engstler beat Daniel Lloyd to pole position in qualifying for the joint TCR Asia – TCR China series races at the Zhejiang International Circuit in China, with the Hyundai driver four tenths clear.

TCR Asia’s Engstler was not only four tenths faster than the next quickest car, Lloyd competing in TCR China for Dongfeng Honda, but he was a huge six tenths quicker than his next closest TCR Asia rival, Solite Indigo Racing’s Pepe Oriola in third.

Liqui Moly Team NewFaster’s Terry Huang was the only other driver to be within a second of Engstler’s time, putting his Audi in fourth.

Korean racer Kim Jin Soo had his best qualifying session of the season so far to put his Hyundai in fifth, ahead of one of the title contenders in TCR Asia, Diego Moran in sixth.

Liqui Moly Team NewFaster’s Kenneth Look was seventh, less than three hundredths ahead of the best Volkswagen of Team Oettinger’s Adam Khalid in eighth.

Dongfeng’s Martin Xie and Eurasia Motorsport’s Daniel Miranda completed the top ten, competing in TCR China and TCR Asia respectively.

The two brand new MG6 TCR cars both made it into Q2 in their first-ever competitive session, but Zhang Zhe and Rodolfo Ávila were 11^th and 12^th respectively, around two seconds off the pace. The cars are ineligible for points in either series this weekend.

Race one takes place at 15:50 local time (08:50 BST, 09:50 CEST).
