Tom Chilton is looking forward to this weekend’s British Touring Car Championship races at Oulton Park this weekend, with the Motorbase Performance driver returning to the scene of a double podium in 2018 fresh from claiming his first win of the year.
Chilton was on the pace in Cheshire last year, qualifying in third for race one and going on to claim two podium finishes in the first two races, narrowly missing out on a win.
The 34-year-old heads to the circuit this year fresh from having taken his first win of the year last time out at Croft, which has in turn lifted him up to seventh overall in the drivers’ championship standings.
“Oulton Park was our most successful race meeting with a double podium last year,” said Chilton. “I’m really excited about heading back to one of my favourite race tracks of the year.
“It’s very technical and full of undulations which make it exciting and challenging to drive on the limit.
“After our win and double podium last time out at Croft I can’t wait to race this weekend again.”
Team Manager Oly Collins emphasised the need for the team to keep their momentum going, with Chilton having also been in the top ten all weekend last time out.
He also highlighted the potential for the weekend to mark a milestone in terms of success for the Kent-based team.
“We need to keep the momentum going off the back of our win last time out,” said Collins. “The car is showing strong pace at this part of the season.
“We’re light going into the weekend with Tom carrying just 18 kg, and we want more silverware.
“The RS is strong at Oulton Park. We know that from last year’s pace. It was one of our best circuits in 2018, but we’ve all moved on since then.
“It would be nice to hit the magic 90 podiums and 30 wins this weekend, but our focus is on the championship title and closing the gap to the leaders.”
