Six drivers choose soft Dunlop tyre for race one at Oulton Park

BMW’s pole-sitter Colin Turkington will start the first British Touring Car Championship race at Oulton Park with the option tyre, one of six drivers to choose the softer rubber for the opening encounter.

Turkington qualified on pole position by just 0.027 seconds over Sam Tordoff on Saturday, and the Northern Irishman will have the advantage of softer rubber in the first race in Cheshire.

Also choosing the soft tyre for the first race were BMW Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan (fourth on the grid), Power Maxed Racing’s Jason Plato (eighth), Motorbase’s Ollie Jackson (13th), Exceler8 Motorsport’s Rob Smith (28th) and Simpson Racing’s Matt Simpson (30th).

The majority of the field have opted to use the tyre in race two, whilst just four drivers (Mark Blundell, Tom Oliphant, Bobby Thompson and Chris Smiley) will bolt on the rubber for race three.

Race one gets underway at 12:20 BST.
