Martin Xie led a Dongfeng Honda 1-2 in qualifying for the joint TCR Asia and TCR China qualifying session at the Shanghai International Circuit, as Diego Moran was the top TCR Asia qualifier.
Xie led team-mate Daniel Lloyd by a margin of just over two tenths of a second, as the Honda Civic cars dominated the session, the duo having earlier also been quickest in Q1.
Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Diego Moran was third in the leading Hyundai, after the Ecuadorian had his fastest lap reinstated having originally been classified in fifth.
Teamwork Motorsport’s Sunny Wong was fourth fastest, being second quickest of the TCR Asia contingent on the Hong Kong racer’s return to the series, just over six tenths from pole.
Points leader Luca Engstler was fifth fastest in his Team Engstler Hyundai, ahead of the second Teamwork Audi of Alex Hui in sixth.
Elegant Racing’s Kelvin Wong was seventh on his return to the series in the best of the CUPRAs, ahead of Eurasia Motorsport’s Daniel Miranda in eighth.
Completing the top ten and securing the reverse-grid front row for race two were Solite Indigo Racing’s Pepe Oriola in ninth and Liqui Moly Team NewFaster’s Alex Liu in tenth, the latter being part of the TCR China contingent this weekend.
Race one is scheduled to get underway at 15:45 local time (09:45 CEST, 08:45 BST).
