Jimmy Clairet stripped of Spa race two podium for contact with Dušan Borković

Team Clairet Sport’s Jimmy Clairet has been stripped of his second place finish in race two of TCR Europe at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, dropping him down to 24th after his incident with Dušan Borkovic.

Clairet started third on the grid in his Peugeot 308 TCR and challenged reverse-grid polesitter Borković for the lead after an early safety car.

The Frenchman looked around the outside of La Source but ran wide, allowing fellow countryman Julien Briché through, who then took the lead from Borkovic along the Kemmel straight.

Clairet then appeared to attempt to duck out of Borković’s slipstream, but instead tagged the back of the Target Competition Hyundai, spearing it into a spin onto the run-off at Les Combes and forcing him to eventually retire after falling down to 17th position.

For the incident, Clairet received a 30 second penalty – the equivalent of a drive-through – to drop him down to 24th position.

Further incidents from the closing laps of the race remain under investigation.
