Dan Lloyd claims dominant victory in Shanghai

Dongfeng Honda Racing’s Dan Lloyd claimed victory in the opening TCR Asia / China race at the Shanghai International Circuit, passing team-mate Martin Xie at the half-way stage to claim victory in race one.

Lloyd, who is contesting the full TCR China season, followed his Honda Civic team-mate for the first five laps before getting past Xie and romping away to victory with a comfortable four-second margin.

Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Luca Engstler was the best of the Hyundai drivers, claiming second as the top TCR Asia finisher, having moved up to third at the start of the race. The German then got past Xie at the same time that Lloyd moved into the lead of the race, although he had no answer to the Brit’s pace.

Xie completed the podium in third, having fallen away from Engstler by a further three seconds by the time the chequered flag flew.

Solite Indigo Racing’s Pepe Oriola was fourth in his Hyundai, the Spaniard moving up from ninth on the grid and benefitting when Alex Liu and Alex Hui made contact on the opening lap, which forced the latter to retire his Audi. Oriola had briefly held the final podium place, before Xie re-took the position.

The second Team Engstler Hyundai of Diego Moran was fifth, ahead of Terry Huang’s NewFaster Audi in sixth.

Teamwork Motorsport’s Sunny Wong, also racing in TCR UK this year, had been running in sixth but the Audi driver had to retire with just two laps left to run due to a turbo issue, having earlier been keeping the pressure on Oriola and Moran ahead.

Race two is scheduled to get underway at 09:45 local time (03:45 CEST, 02:45 BST).
