Colin Turkington: “It’s been the perfect weekend so far”

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington has described his weekend so far as “perfect” after securing pole position and doubling up in the opening two British Touring Car Championship races at Oulton Park.

The three time BTCC champion controlled the opening encounter to lead every lap from pole to the flag with maximum ballast on soft rubber, and repeated the success in the following contest on the medium compound, heading home WSR stablemate Andrew Jordan.

Turkington told TouringCars.Net he feels he has hit his stride with the new-for-2019 BMW 3 Series, as the car is in a “really good place” at the Cheshire circuit.

“It’s been the perfect weekend so far,” said Turkington. “Pole, two wins and I think we’ve just got the car in a really good place this weekend.

“I’ve had to work really hard to achieve those results, especially race one.

“But the car felt really good there on the medium tyre so it’s been a really strong day so far and I’ll try to keep scoring.”

The result means Turkington now leads the standings by 38 points from Jordan as the 2019 season nearly reaches its halfway mark.

Having now tripled his win tally from his championship-winning campaign last year, Turkington admitted he has exceeded expectations downplayed the importance of his standings advantage at this point in the season.

“It’s probably exceeded our expectations but it’s only round five, still we’re not even halfway yet.

“We can just keep working hard and keep scoring points.”

The final British Touring Car Championship race of the day is set to get underway at 17:10 BST.
