Andrew Jordan doubles up, leading BMW 1-2 in Croft race two

Andrew Jordan led BMW team-mate Colin Turkington in the second British Touring Car Championship race at Croft, securing his second win of the weekend to launch him up to fourth in the drivers’ standings.

The BMW Pirtek Racing driver once again made a strong start from pole position, leading from the off in the second race under sunny skies.

Jordan’s charge was aided by the BTC Racing Honda of Chris Smiley, who acted as a cork in the bottle to hold up the rest of the field and allow Jordan to open up a lead of over a second by the end of the first lap.

Turkington had got past Motorbase’s Tom Chilton at the start, and as team-mate Tom Oliphant attempted to also get through the two made contact, unsettling the BMW. Oliphant then got off line and spun at the chicane, dropping him to the back of the field.

Turkington pressured Smiley incessantly in the opening laps, taking until lap five to get past his fellow Northern Irishman as he began to come under pressure from the Honda of Dan Cammish.

By that stage, Jordan had opened up a lead of over four seconds, and despite closing the gap to just over a second, Turkington was unable to come close to challenging his team-mate.

The podium was completed by Cammish, who had got past Smiley on lap eight at Tower, as the BTC driver slipped down the order after being unable to keep pace with the front runners.

Matt Neal followed his Honda team-mate home in fourth, completing a strong drive from tenth on the grid after passing several drivers at sunny In once again.

Subaru’s Ash Sutton was fifth, but the BMR driver was involved in a controversial incident with Smiley on the last lap of the race which saw Smiley pitched off the circuit and down to 27th after contact between the pair.

Power Maxed Racing’s Jason Plato scored his eighth top ten finish in a row in sixth, ahead of the Toyota of Tom Ingram in seventh, and the lead BTC Honda of Josh Cook in eighth, who slips to third in the drivers’ standing as a result.

The top ten was completed by Chilton, who lost several places three laps from the end, and Laser Tools Racing’s Aiden Moffat.

Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan continued his comeback through the field after a poor qualifying and took 11th, defending hard from the BMW 125i of Stephen Jelley late in the race.

The reverse grid for the final race of the day will see Chilton start from pole after the top nine were reversed, with Cook alongside on the front row.

Race three is scheduled to get underway at 17:05 BST.
