Motorbase Performance’s Tom Chilton has been handed a five-second time penalty for an incident with Matt Neal in race three of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch.
The penalty promotes AmD Tuning’s Rory Butcher to a maiden BTCC victory, after his second place finish on the road was previously his career-best result.
When Neal passed the fast-starting Stephen Jelley for the lead, Chilton capitalised and followed him through a lap later.
Then, as Neal’s softer-compound tyres wore as the race progressed, Chilton closed in and lunged down the inside at Clark Curve on lap 14, the pair rubbing before Chilton made the move stick, for which he has since been penalised.
The amended result does not affect Jelley’s third position, as he was 5.9 seconds adrift of Chilton at the flag.
