Motorland Aragon reveals 2020 WTCR race date

Motorland Aragon in north-eastern Spain has revealed that it will host a round of the FIA World Touring Car Cup from 2020 in an agreement lasting three years.

The circuit opened in 2009 but has never hosted top international touring car competition until now. From next season it will host a round of WTCR, with World Touring Cars last visiting Spain, in Valencia, in 2012.

The circuit’s headline event to-date has been hosting a round of the MotoGP series, which it has held since 2010.

In a statement, the circuit said “the intention of MotorLand, which has made a great effort analyzing all possible options to find a product as attractive and powerful as the Eurosport FIA WTCR, is to turn this event into its annual event for motor racing enthusiasts.

“In addition, it will create around it an extensive program of recreational and sports activities designed for all audiences.”

No confirmation of the event is expected from WTCR promoter Eurosport Events until the conclusion of the negotiations to continue to run TCR-spec machinery.
