Honda’s Dan Cammish set the pace in the official British Touring Car Championship test session at Thruxton on Wednesday, putting his Honda on top of the times by just over two tenths of a second from BTC Racing’s Chris Smiley.
Cammish led a Honda 1-2-3 at the top of the times, as his lap of 1 minute 15.292 seconds was the fastest of the day, with the Halfords Yuasa Racing racer being the only driver in the top ten to set his best lap in the morning session.
“It’s always nice to be quickest,” said Cammish. “We went very well here last year and did a good job. Matt (Neal) was on pole. Out of the box this morning, the car felt very strong.
“We’re working through our programme and there were a few laps in there that would have been good enough for pole.
“[It was] a shame about the little bit of damage. Matt [Neal] had an issue with his car and jumped into mine and I think he got caught in traffic there before a little off. It’s fine, though, just a small prang!
“As a driver, I’ve come long way since this time last year and so has the car. We’ve made improvements over the winter and we’ll see a bit more from it here.
“As a package we should be strong. Right now, I’d have to say I’m glad we’re coming here twice.”
Smiley was second, ahead of AmD Tuning’s Rory Butcher in the older model Civic in third, four tenths off the pace.
Subaru’s Ash Sutton was fourth, just 0.013 seconds ahead of the Mercedes of Aiden Moffat in fifth.
Colin Turkington was the best of the BMW 330i trio in sixth, just over half a second off the pace, ahead of the second BTC Racing Honda of Josh Cook in seventh.
Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan made it two Mercedes drivers in the top ten in eighth, ahead of AmD Tuning’s Sam Tordoff in ninth and Speedworks’ Tom Ingram in tenth.
All drivers with the exception of Stephen Jelley took part in the day of testing at the Hampshire circuit.
